Expat Medical Insurance

Medical and Health Insurance

Medical and health insurance should carefully be considered as an option when you treavel abroad for holiday or expatriate work reasons. Medical care can cost thousands of pounds if you happen to fall ill or are unfortunate enough to have an accident abroad. The USA has a reputation for expensive medical healthcare, but many countries are expensive when it comes to expat medical services.

Some countries like the UK have mutual health care agreements with other countries, but even so these arrangements rarely cover all the expenses that can be incurred. Even when visiting a country with a reciprocal health care agreement, bear in mind that, in an emergency, you might be sent across the border for treatment in a country where no such arrangement exists. It can be very costly for relatives to fly out to you in the case of a serious illness or accident and the costs of repatriation can be extreme, in the event of illness or death, and are never covered under mutual health care agreements. A good health care insurance policy will protect you from these costs.
