Be well prepared travelling abroad:

Check with the Department of Health to see which vaccinations you need and what the current health concerns are for your destination. Its best to do this at least 2 months before you travel.

If you have any pre-exisitng medical conditions check in with your doctor well before your departure, in case you need to take extra health precautions.

Be sure you have a good supply of any medicine you will need to take on your journey and be sure it does not represent an issue to carry through customs etc. Check with Embassies or High Commissions as necessary.

Label medicines correctly and clearly, carry them in your hand luggage. Take written proof of their content and you requirement for them from you doctor.

Get a dentalcheckup before you travel, treatment away could be expensi

Carry a written record on your person of any medical condition affecting you, such as diabetes and haemophilia, and the full details on any drugs or medicines you are taking.

Watch out for insect and animal bites don't take foolish risks with local wildlife and use repellents etc if they are recommended for the area.

Traffic accidents are a major hazard to travellers. If you are in a car, always wear seat belts. On a motor or pedal bike, always wear a helmet and as protective clothing if available, better hot than scraped to the bone. If you hire a car or a bike, check its condition and the insurance cover. Never drink and drive and don't get in a car with a drink driver.
